You can get vines in many ways including by opening gifts and chests, as well as by clearing obstacles such as tumbleweeds, wooden barrels, buried chests, and colored stones.
You can also as a reward for completing Merchant orders, or from the vine pot, which you can place on Home Island at level 13. The vine pot will generate one vine every 24 hours.
Vine are useful for many things including upgrading the Fireplace, Smelter, Stone Poem, as well as for restoring bridges and opening gates on Archipelago Islands. You will also need vines to craft items at the Ceramics Workshop, Workbench, Mixer and Materials Workshop.
