Sticks

You can gather by clearing bushes and trees from the land, by clearing dead trees and other obstacles you come across as you explore, and by getting them as rewards for completing certain quests.
If you run out of sticks, you can always visit an Archipelago Island and chop down a bush or a trees to get more. You can also simply wait until bushes you chopped down earlier on Home Island regenerate, then chop them down again.
